February 2021 IDEA Challenge

Representation on Social Media: Your Virtual Storefront

February’s IDEA Challenge is facilitated by Tash Thomas.

The IDEA Project is a global initiative aimed at developing Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) within coworking and collaborative spaces. Each month, we will host a challenge that assists you in broadening your understanding of IDEA, whilst giving clear actions for you to take to develop IDEA within your space.

Before introducing any new strategy, it’s important to understand the businesses current position. This first challenge will act as an informal audit.

Challenge #1 – Representation on Social Media: Your Digital Storefront

Social Media is a key part of any business and for many customers it’s their first interaction with you. Whether it’s stumbling across your instagram or finding your Facebook page during a Google search, it is their first impression of what your space is all about.

With this is mind, it is incredibly important that your social media is a true representation of your ideas and values.

We have provided a simple Google Form for you to fill out whilst reviewing your social media. It is important to note, that at this time, there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer to the questions. This is merely a tool to assist you in finding a benchmark for where you are now, and for providing you with some areas to consider going forward.

We understand that not all of the social media platforms listed will be relevant to your business, so please focus on the ones that are.
As an additional exercise, feel free to use this form when looking at other brands online. It’s always good to identify where your industry as a whole may be falling short. Reflecting your values in your digital storefront can help you to stand out in a crowd.
